SECRET YORKSHIRE

Introducing Comic Con Yorkshire: Everything You Need to Know

If you’ve ever wanted to see your favourite comic, TV, and film stars in one place in Yorkshire, you’re in luck. Brand new this year is Comic Con Yorkshire, based in Harrogate on the 3rd and 4th of June and packed with guest appearances, Q&As, and insider insights into the pop culture moments you love.

Here’s what to expect from the biggest pop culture event in Yorkshire’s calendar.

Comic Con Yorkshire 2023

Based in Harrogate’s Yorkshire Event Centre, organiser Andy Kleek and the Monopoly Events team will present this Yorkshire-based Comic Con event that’s perfect for newbies and Comic Con veterans alike.

Taking place from the 3rd-4th June 2023, Comic Con Yorkshire promises a great day out for pop culture fans of all ages, with celebrity Q&A panels, meet and greets and photographs, and a behind-the-scenes look at props and displays.

What’s Involved?

Comic Cons have been held worldwide for decades now, with the purpose of allowing fans to meet their heroes, cosplay as their favourite characters, and build a community with fellow fans.

Like all Comic Cons, Comic Con Yorkshire will be a place for fans of pop culture, TV, films, and comic books to meet and greet the stars of their favourite shows, get photos and autographs, and interact with other fans in the community.

Special guests will attend Q&A panels so you can get to know more about your favourite shows and movies and the people that star in them.

As well as enjoying unparalleled access to some of the biggest names in the business, you’re encouraged to join a huge cosplay community by dressing as your favourite character, browse trade stalls with related merchandise, and explore props and set displays from your favourite on-screen moments.

You can find official programmes containing information about where everything’s located, and the schedule for photoshoots and Q&A sessions. Schedules will be released around two weeks before the event and be e-mailed to every customer with a ticket.

Who Can I Expect to See?

Here’s where things get really exciting. Comic Con Yorkshire promises all of your favourite stars in one place right here in God’s own country.

If, like the rest of us, you’ve been glued to this year’s stand-out hit, The Last of Us, you’ll be thrilled to see Gabriel Luna (Tommy) in attendance. Also on the lineup to appear is the one and only John Cleese (who needs no introduction) James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and Hollywood legend Michael Madsen.

Wednesday fans can expect to enjoy appearances from Jamie McShane and Georgie Farmer, while also in attendance will be Game of Thrones stars Clive Russell, Josef Altin, and Murray McArthur, Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover, Allo Allo legends Guy Siner, Richard Gibson, and Kim Hartman, and star of Gremlins, Zach Galligan.

What Attractions Can I Expect to See?

When we say you won’t be bored at Comic Con Yorkshire, we mean it! As well as the opportunity to meet your favourite stars and listen to them answer questions at Q&A panels, you’ll find plenty of props, sets, and attractions that let you peek behind the curtain at some of your favourite pop culture moments and locations.

At Comic Con Yorkshire, you’ll find the following attractions on offer.

  • The iconic Tardis from Doctor Who.

  • Vecna’s doorway, the rainbow room, Hopper’s truck, and Scoops Ahoy from Stranger Things.

  • The infamous ‘Don’t open dead inside’ doors from The Walking Dead.

  • Psycho’s couch.

  • The Vegetas Throne from Dragonball 2.

  • Short Circuit from Johnny-5.

  • Bumblee from Transformers.

  • Miyagi-do Dojo and Cobra Kai Dojo from Cobra Kai.

  • Iron Man’s Armoury from The Avengers.

  • The Fiat Cinquecento (with its one red door, of course) from The Inbetweeners.

  • The Hobbit Hole from the Lord of the Rings.

  • Hagrid’s motorbike and the Weasley’s flying Ford Anglia from Harry Potter.

  • Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters.

  • Castle Greyskull from He-Man.

  • Boba Fett’s Throne from The Book of Boba Fett.

  • Back Smash from Bloodsport.

  • The bat cave, bat cave wall, the bat light, and the Arkham Asylum gates from Batman.

Can I Bring My Family?

Absolutely. Comic Con is a family-friendly event, so if your children want to meet their favourite TV star or look behind the scenes at the props and displays used on a movie set, you can bring them along to their first Yorkshire Comic Con and make memories that will last forever.

Children over the age of 14 are allowed into the event alone, but any children under the age of 14 will need to be accompanied by a full-paying adult.

Can I Cosplay?

Absolutely. In fact, it’s encouraged! Many Comic Con attendees dress up as their favourite character from a popular TV show, film, or comic. Obviously, you should keep your costume safe and family-friendly (there’s a full list of cosplay FAQ rules here) but dressing up is an exciting and unique part of the day for many attendees.

Will There Be Food & Drink?

Yorkshire Event Centre, where Yorkshire Comic Con will be held, has two cafes linked to each hall and open during all events. Here you’ll find a range of hot and cold drinks, snacks, and meals. There are even picnic box meal deals for the little ones and free water refills for anybody bringing their own bottle.

Both cafes offer outdoor seating, which functions as the perfect meeting point for groups wanting to enter the event together. Many traders in the trader zone will also be selling sweet treats and soft drinks, and there will be various hot food carts outside the venue, too.

The Must-Visit Event for Yorkshire’s Pop Culture Fans

We’re thrilled that Comic Con has arrived in Yorkshire, providing Yorkshire’s pop culture fans with a place to meet, create communities, and interact with their favourite stars.
